Spring Cleaning

In this exhibition we will present works that are mostly part of the gallery’s collection, some of which have never been publicly presented.

The title recalls my youth when in my hometown they used to perform the Spring Cleanings to receive the Easter Compass with dignity.

The chests were opened to air out what was inside, the floors smelled of bleach, the curtains were drawn in the sun, and joy was reborn inside us.

After two years of pandemic, we also had, during the last exhibitions “Fénix I”, “Fénix II”, and “Before Winter Comes – Remembering Canvas”, the need to air out some works that acquired a new brightness and that remind us of our past, an airing that culminates with this exhibition.

Two Brazilian artists with whom we have never worked are remembered here. Brígida Baltar, who left us recently, and Artur Barrio who, fortunately for us, continues to live on his boat “Pélagos” in Guanabara Bay, active and challenging us with his permanent contestation. At this moment he has an exhibition at the Centro Internacional das Artes José de Guimarães (CIAJG), in Guimarães, “Artur Barrio . Interminable”, curated by Luiz Camillo Osório and Marta Mestre.
