Room next door: selection of works by Maria José Oliveira and Maria José Palla

MARIA JOSÉ OLIVEIRA was born in Lisbon in 1943. She lives and works in Lisbon. Since 1967, she has conducted research on pit firing in Ribolhos, in the Viseu region, with Master Potter Albino, one of the last traditional potters.

She attended the IADE ceramics course from 1973 to 1976.

In 1978, she enrolled in the sculpture course at Ar.Co. She was a guest lecturer in the Ceramics Department at Ar.Co from 1991 to 1997.

Since 1982, she has participated in solo and group exhibitions.

MARIA JOSÉ PALLA is an academic and photographer. She is a retired professor at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She lived in Paris for many years in exile, where she earned her PhD at the Sorbonne University and a diploma from the École du Louvre. She is the author of numerous books and articles on Gil Vicente and Portuguese Renaissance painting.

She has been practicing photography for several years, exhibiting her work in galleries, museums, and publications both in Portugal and abroad.
