Miguel Afa
Biography
Miguel Afa lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. He began his artistic journey through graffiti in 2001, on the streets and alleys of the Complexo do Alemão, and later attended the School of Fine Arts at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
His work offers a perspective on peripheral bodies, challenging the adverse conditions to which these bodies are subjected and proposing an alternative visual reading that emphasizes affection. At times, his images are gentle and filled with sensitivity; at others, they convey a direct political message. Yet, what his gaze captures gains a unique aura through the colors he uses—his soft palette is a fundamental element of his compositions, further deepening the impact of what is represented. His color choices are not naive; they are also a form of discourse, a stance on the scenes depicted. To fade is to remind us of what is seen and what is rendered invisible.
