João Paulo Balsini

João Paulo Balsini is a visual artist, painter and researcher. He lives and works in the city of Rio de Janeiro. He studied painting at the Parque Lage School of Visual Arts (EAV), in Rio de Janeiro, and at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco/CA.

With an academic degree in Law, he is a Public Prosecutor (CAU/RJ) and a University Professor (UFRJ). As an artist, he has participated in exhibitions in Brazil (São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio de Janeiro and Bahia), Milan/Italy and Portugal. In his current research, the artist expresses small autobiographical, confessional narratives that portray his intimacy and affections, and the many ways in which his masculinity presents itself. This poetics translates into an expressive gestural language, an aggressive and dense figuration, emphasised by the imperfection of the line, the unfinished and the gesture.
