Culture is all that remains when nothing else is left to us.

The word culture, derived from the Latin “colere,” means to cultivate and care for. In a constantly transforming world, culture becomes a fundamental pillar, allowing artists and thinkers to cultivate critical thought and face the emerging challenges of contemporary life. In this context, art is not just a form of expression, but a powerful tool for interpreting and visualizing the system in which we live, functioning as an act of resistance and resilience in times of uncertainty and loss of human references.

CONFLUENT TERRITORIES is not just an exhibition; it is an ode to plurality and resistance, a space where art becomes a vehicle for transformation and dialogue. The proposal to explore the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis — which suggests that the structure of a language shapes the perception and thought of its speakers — invites visitors to reflect on how language can influence the way we categorize the world, paving the way for new perspectives.

The nine artists from three distinct generations and at different career stages operate transnationally across various countries, offering a selection of videos that not only reflect the complexity of the contemporary world but also promote a space for dialogue and cultural exchange. Their works, combining narrative urgency, human depth, and commitment, invite us to reconsider our perspectives, build bridges instead of borders, and allow space for narratives capable of generating empathy, awareness, and perhaps even change.

We cannot consider social disparity, environmental annihilation, widespread violence, or wars as normal in a technological and developed society like ours. We cannot reduce existence to a profit target in a corporate style that is leading humanity to an abyss.

By uniting varied voices and experiences, CONFLUENT TERRITORIES establishes itself as a vital space for reflection and perception that we are all united and interconnected. United also by a question: we do not know where we came from or where we are going. And in this interval of time we call life, we invent many things to forget our finitude. Art explains to us. Art questions our status quo. Art helps us understand the world.
